Believe it or not, postpartum anxiety is like a cousin to postpartum depression and postpartum rage. Becoming a new mom or adding another new addition to your family should give us enough anxiety as it is. Postpartum anxiety is a disorder that makes you feel overly worried after you have birthed your child, and it happens in just about 10 percent of mothers. Moms are usually faced with feelings of dread, excessive worry, and racing thoughts about their newborn. As a mother, you often have thoughts such as; “what if someone breaks into our home and snatches my baby?”, “what if he suffocates?”, or even “what if he slips underwater during a bath?”. These are “what if” thoughts that can subside. When should I be worried about Postpartum Anxiety? Often holding your baby with the mindset of "always protecting him or her", or often trying to protect your baby from scary thoughts. This may become problematic when mothers find themselves suffering from panic attacks and their worry affects their everyday lives.
